YA Studies Around the World
Online Conference
2 – 6 November 2020
What does YA Studies look like in 2020? The YA Studies Association’s first biennial conference will explore recent critical developments in YA Studies from around the world. This online conference aims to bring together diverse, international voices across a range of disciplines, offering a diverse schedule of synchronous and asynchronous opportunities for presenting and engaging throughout the first week of November.
While most Calls for Papers would offer a list of suggested topics that are in keeping with the conference’s theme, we are going in a different direction. Guided by community-based participatory research, this conference will be participant-led, meaning the focus will be decided by the interests of those who contribute. We are asking you to demonstrate what you think is significant in the field of YA Studies by pitching a paper, roundtable, performance, or something else entirely on an area of concern within YA studies (or on YA studies). As organisers, our role will be to curate the conference that organically emerges.
We welcome proposals from scholars and practitioners working in the broad range of disciplines intersecting with YA, who are at all stages and career levels, and who are of any race, ethnicity, religion, class, ability, gender, sex, and sexuality. We particularly encourage proposals from scholars working beyond the Anglo-American tradition.
To be considered, please send your proposal and a short biography to yastudiesassociation@gmail.com by 31 July 2020. Proposals may be submitted in any format, including written, audio, and video. We welcome conventional proposals for traditional academic papers while also encouraging participants to push the boundaries of that format. All proposals should convey the format and timeframe of your intended contribution. Acceptances will be communicated no later than 7 August 2020.
Please note: In place of the traditional conference fee, there will be an opportunity to make a small donation at registration. Any monies raised will be used to cover organising costs; no member will profit from this, or any YASA, activity.
I am a Brazilian writer and next november, in São Paulo, I will be launching an YA novel co-written by an Irish writer, Adrienne Geoghegan. Would I be able to read an excerpt and make some comments about its cultural background? Would this approach be appropriate?
